As the platform for new footballing talent expands globally, John hopes to be instrumental in ensuring that young and aspiring players from the UAE can demonstrate the importance of the region for harvesting footballing talent whilst they themselves become highly valued members of the MIFA family.
Born in Liverpool, it was no surprise that John developed a passion for soccer from an early age, himself playing in the city’s local leagues which are well-known for a high standard of play and competitiveness. Later, a coaching and referee’s course with Manchester County F.A., where he was involved with junior teams from Manchester City F.C., fuelled a particular interest in player development in the form of coaching through to commercial management.
Over 30 years as a business professional, offering support and advice to companies across a range of sectors, John has now lived and worked in the UAE for over 10 years during which time he has established an extensive range of local and ex-pat contacts. This has included those within the soccer scene which has developed rapidly over recent years and now boasts almost 50 professional/semi-pro clubs underpinned by a strong grass roots platform. For this reason, John believes that the time could not be better to strengthen links between UAE soccer and the UK which will, he hopes, result in ever increasing success for UAE teams, both domestically and internationally.
For this reason, John is delighted to have had the opportunity to re-connect with previous business associate and now director of MIFA, Ross Johnson: As the platform for new footballing talent expands globally, John hopes to be instrumental in ensuring that young and aspiring players from the UAE can demonstrate the importance of the region for harvesting footballing talent whilst they themselves become highly valued members of the MIFA family.
